Stay/Return: Tactics of Repair.
Taking Miguel Gualdrón Ramírez’s idea of “to stay” as a practice of resistance, this exhibition — Elize Vossgâtter, Hugo Kabeya, Josephine Grindrod, Leonardo Sitoe, Nazeer Jappie and Nina Shapiro — considers remaining and returning as modes of repair.
The artists work across painting, sculpture, printmaking and found materials to dwell in archives, pauses, decay, dreams and rupture; their artworks foreground circularity, entanglement and the politics of remaining. From Shapiro’s archival reimagining and Jappie’s sustained pauses, to Vossgätter’s surfaces of wax and pulp, Sitoe’s mythic dream narratives, Kabeya’s excavation of history and Grindrod’s reweaving of colonial image-logic, the show insists on staying with difficult histories and material traces, reflecting on how small gestures of sustained attention and continuous repair might reconfigure what is inherited.
