Kras (Brendon Reef and Duncan Gosling) is set to create a performance piece at Nel Gallery for the Heat Festival 2026. This captivating piece will feature KRAS crafting a life-sized rag doll replica of Brandon, while Duncan will embody the human doll. The exterior of the doll will be made from printed fabric, which KRAS will assemble throughout the performance, using human hair and organic material as stuffing and incorporating five distinct objects to symbolise the five vital organs. These objects resonate with some of the festival’s broader themes. The performance delves into the desire to recreate oneself in an idyllic, perfect form, a doll. An ambient sound set will be playing throughout the experience, composed by artist PURE who crafts soundscapes from nature recordings, to transport the audience back to nature and cultivate a meditative space for reconnection. Our artwork titled “Five Rand Serpent” will also be featured in the space, which also speaks to the performance. The number five is a recurring motif in the conceptualisation of this performance: five vital organs, the R5 serpent, and 555, an angel number signifying major life changes, personal transformation, and positive shifts on the horizon. It encourages embracing new opportunities, releasing old patterns, and trusting that these changes are for your highest good.
